Jon Gray Undergoes Tripple Bypass

John grayFather’s Day this year will be one that John Gray doesn’t forget.  John had an “episode” last week, but didn’t think much of it.  Annie convinced him to go to the ER on Wednesday.  Tests showed that he indeed has blockages in his arteries so he was scheduled for the triple bypass on Father’s Day.

The surgery was successful and John will be in the ICU for 48 hours.  If things continue to go as expected he will probably be going home near the end of the week.

Having an “episode” after the big Memorial Day Pignic is not unusual for most Gluttons, but it’s usually the next day when we feel the effects.  Hats off to the cooks who perhaps contributed to this long lasting epic episode.

Seriously, our thoughts and prayers go out to Jon and we wish him a speedy recovery as he recuperates at home in Florida.

Bud Men in the Land of Leprechans

Mike Big Byrd Mathews is winding down his golf trip in Ireland and will be coming home on Wednesday to nearly 100°F temperature after two weeks of highs in the 60’s and near 70°F.  Byrd and his left-hand man, Larry Petersen being the wusses they are, opted for good old Budweiser instead of the local brews in the Irish homeland.  Apparently Larry has coined the phrase, “When in Ireland, it’s only money”.

Mike sends along this photo that almost looks more like a painting than a photo of his golfing group taken shortly after one in their group got a hole-in-one at the Royal County Down course.  Of course it wasn’t Mike or Larry that got the hole-in-one.  They played ten rounds of golf on ten different courses.

When they get off the plane and step out into the hot and humid St. Louis weather it’d be nice if someone was there holding a sign saying, “Welcome to Hell”.

Susan Lark’s mom dies

Another one bites the dust… Susan Lark’s mother, Dorothy King passed away last night (February 2, 2013) at about 8 pm at Missouri Baptist Hospital.  Dorothy had been in the hospital with congestive heart failure.  She was a very kind, friendly and fun loving person.  She was 89 (not 90) years old.

A memorial service is being tentatively planned for February 16th which would have been her 90th birthday.  Details to follow.

Our condolences to Susan, Dave and their family and friends.

Retired

Retired Dan

Dan Sucich who has been counting down the days until his retirement for the last two year or so to anyone who’d listen, made it official Saturday night with his “surprise” retirement party at the club.  A great crowd was on hand to show Dan how much they cared.  And for the free beer and food!  A job well done.  Congratulations Dan!

Rowberry Hospitalized

No Supervisor On Duty, But Club Stands To Save $$$ On Beer!

Rowberry hospitalizedGlutton supervisor Gary Rowberry was hospitalized on Friday, June 22, 2012 with a problem with his beer blood levels.? If I understand it correctly, Row’s white cells were way down and his platelets were dangerously low.? That would explain his zombie-like look for the last week or so.? You may have thought he was wearing make-up for a Thriller video remake, but apparently that wasn’t the case.

They have given him lots of beer blood, and sweet and sour sauce platelets, but?his platelet levels?keep going back down.?

Today he underwent a beer bone marrow biopsy which he said wasn’t that bad of a procedure.? They’re hoping that will give them a better idea of what’s going on.?

Rowberry is in good spirits and feels OK.? He doesn’t know how long he’ll be in the hospital.? Most importantly, Mark Paulsen is making sure the beer machine is stocked.

He is in room 539 at DePaul Hospital.? Click picture to enlarge

Update:? Gary got out of the hospital today (Tuesday).? They’ve decided that he has ITP.? It’s a condition that causes blood platelets to decrease sooner than?they normally would.? It has no known cause.? They’re going to treat him with steroids and keep a close eye on him.? You should too!

Kathy Holt Has Heart Attack

On Thursday, May 3, 2012 Kathy Holt suffered a massive heart attack.  911 was called.  Her heart stopped twice before they could get her to the hospital.  She was clinically dead twice.  She had a cardiac cath done, and one artery was 100% closed, and two others were about 50% closed.  The Cardiologist said she was treated before the damage was severe.  They opened the occluded artery, and placed a stent in it.

Because of the quick treatment there was little damage to her heart and she is expected to make a full recovery.

Hobnobbing With The Astros

Gary Rowberry and Mark Paulsen are in Houston Texas this weekend as guests of Jim Crane, owner and chairman of The Houston Astros.  Crane grew up in St. Louis and knew one or both of these guys.  He bought the Astros for $680 million last November.

Too bad they didn’t have the guts to wear Cardinals shirts or at least Glutton shirts.  They’ll be at Saturday’s game too before heading back home on Sunday.
